Good question! We could talk about how this is a pretty average price for personal development materials created by coaches, or the fact that I didn’t have a publisher cutting me a check for $20K to write this.

But instead, I’d like to talk about value pricing.

This price point was arrived at through a mix of gut feeling and research – using value pricing. “Value Pricing” is paying for something based on what it helps the user achieve. I recommend a base point consulting price of $50 USD. If someone uses the strategies from this ebook and earns $50 for an hour of consulting, the eBook paid for itself!

Introduction

In 2011, I began working as a freelancer.  As I amassed knowledge in marketing and product design, I began networking. 5 years later, I also started offering business and career coaching services.

As I met more folks, I wanted to share my insight and knowledge with them.

I found myself in a weird sort of place, where I would spend hours talking with folks on Facebook chat, via email and phone – providing insight and guidance – but not getting paid.

Eventually, I realized this wasn't doable longterm.  My desire to help had folks coming to me all of the time, and I didn't know how to stem the tide.  Inquiries were coming from friends, old colleagues - and then friends of friends.  Then friends of friends of friends, etc.  I was stuck in a weird gray area.

A couple of years ago, I realized I needed to start charging for my time – and not just from folks who were coming to me for freelance services.  The folks showing up in other places in my life, too.

“I charge now.”

Figuring out a way to communicate that I was NOW going to charge people got... awkward.  It's hard for folks to see you in a new light, especially when dollar signs are involved.  From super in-your-face Facebook statuses to email replies to being cornered at a party by someone with a LOT of questions – I figured it out.  

I flailed my way through.  Along the way, I perfected how to communicate why I charge. I learned to share my value and deal with the variety of feelings that come with discussing money.  I came up with scripts to make responding easier, and a whole new way of thinking about money.

So, I've compiled my hard-won strategies into an e-book for you, with the goal that this will make it much easier for you to charge for your time.
